Book: "A concept of “en bloc” of teeth using GUMMETAL wire" by Shin Hasegawa

Constructing a functional occlusion is the most important challenge underlying dental care. Orthodontic occlusal therapy is playing an increasingly important role as an extremely effective approach to occlusal reconstruction. It is no exaggeration to say that comprehensive occlusal reconstruction is impossible without the use of orthodontic treatment modalities , particularly for patients with complex problems associated with dysfunction of the masticatory organ. Why is an orthodontic approach effective? It is because mandibular position can be controlled with orthodontic treatment to correct mandibular displacement, in addition to improving arch form, tooth long axis angulation, occlusal guidance and occlusal relationship in patients with dysfunction. Occlusal therapy without consideration for mandibular position is impossible in treating malocclusions in modern humans. Orthodontic occlusal treatment has been evolving along with the paradigm shift that the masticatory organ also plays an important role in stress management with bruxism function. Orthodontic occlusal treatment is no longer a special treatment in modern dentistry, but is taking root as an effective modality of occlusal treatment as part of standard dental care.
We have published several books on orthodontic treatment taking functional aspects of the masticatory organ into account. This book reinforces these fundamental ideas and summarizes how orthodontic occlusal treatment should be instituted. Therefore, we divided the book into two parts for those who already use the MEAW appliance as well as those who need to know how to start the treatment of malocclusion:
a theoretical part on the concepts of treating malocclusions based on physiological functional occlusion, and
a clinical part focusing on the use of the newly developed titanium alloy called “GUMMETAL” to correct vertical disharmony.
Themes in this book include concepts, diagnosis and treatment planning. Bruxism as a stress‑relieving mechanism and the importance of establishing comfort during treatment with highly comfortable bruxism tires itself while maintaining a tightly occluded position in the initial section. The second part of the book explains the establishment of the GE‑AW appliance (GUMMETAL Edgewise Arch Wire) appliance as well as treatment of different types of malocclusion, and preventive orthodontic treatment based on the mixed dentition and physiological occlusion. It is my sincere hope that this book will help further evolve the treatment of malocclusions.

Book: "Color Atlas of the "en bloc" Movement using GUMMETAL wire" by Shin Hasegawa
0,00 €*
“Color Atlas of the "en bloc" Movement using GUMMETAL wire” by Dr. Shin Hasegawa is a comprehensive clinical guide to applying GUMMETAL, a revolutionary beta-titanium alloy, in orthodontic treatment. GUMMETAL possesses unique properties — a super-low Young's modulus and high strength—allowing it to function similarly to rubber with a strong shape-memory effect.
Key Aspects of the Book and GUMMETAL Technique:
"En Bloc" Movement: The book focuses on using GUMMETAL for the efficient, simultaneous movement of teeth ("en bloc"), which can significantly reduce total treatment time compared to traditional methods.
Clinical Application: Dr. Hasegawa details the practical use of GUMMETAL in a dental office, covering bracket positioning, vertical control, and specific bending methods for the main archwire.
Malocclusion Management: The book provides case studies demonstrating the use of GUMMETAL for various conditions, including Angle Class I, II (divisions 1 and 2), and III, as well as open bites, lateral mandibular deviations, and partial corrections.
Material Advantages: GUMMETAL allows for 3D control of tooth movement from the early stages of treatment, is biocompatible (nickel-free), and provides a gentle, constant force that reduces patient discomfort.
The book is characterized by abundant illustrations and clinical case photographs to guide practitioners through this new-age orthodontic technique.

GUMMETAL wire enables efficient "en bloc" tooth movement (moving a block of teeth together) by utilizing a titanium-based alloy with extremely low Young’s modulus and high flexibility. This technique allows for gentle, constant forces that achieve 3D control of tooth position, reduced treatment time, and improved patient comfort compared to conventional orthodontic materials.
Key Concepts of En Bloc Movement with GUMMETAL Wire:
Optimal Force Delivery: GUMMETAL, a "new-age" beta-titanium alloy, acts like rubber in its ability to deform, providing nearly optimal, gentle, and continuous forces that are ideal for moving teeth.
Three-Dimensional Control: The wire allows for precise 3D management of teeth, including vertical control and managing complex malocclusions (such as open bites, Class II/III, and lateral deviations) from the early stages of treatment.
Simple & Fast Treatment: The technique uses simpler appliances and fewer wire changes, resulting in faster treatment times.
Superior Material Properties: Unlike NiTi, GUMMETAL is super-elastic without stress-induced martensitic transformation, has no work-hardening, and is biocompatible (free of nickel, chrome, and vanadium).
"Bone-Bending" Technique: The force system works by effectively transmitting force to the surrounding bone, causing it to bend along with the tooth and periodontal ligament (PDL).
For detailed clinical application and case examples, "Color Atlas of the 'en bloc' Movement using GUMMETAL wire" is a primary reference.
